EDB's Pere Marquette, Detroit through Annpere Layout

This site is devoted to the display of my home layout, in progess

The layout resides in the lower level of my home in Michigan, USA.  It is an N scale layout that encompases the outer perimeter of the lower level.  It includes the area from Downtown Detroit through Annpere MI, the railroads that will be modeled are the Pere Marquette, Pennsylvania, Wabash & Ann Arbor.

Pere Marquette Railroad - Mainline

The Pere Marquette Railway came to being in 1900 via the merger of several Michigan based railroads the most notable were;
  • Flint & Pere Marquette Railway
  • Detroit, Lansing & Northern Railway
  • Chicago & West Michigan Railroad

It encompased many areas of Michigan and operated in Toledo Ohio, Chicago Illinois and Ontario Canada.  The largest portion of it's operation was from Detroit to Grand Rapids Michigan.  The Fort Street Union Depot the heart of it's Detroit area passenger service was built in 1893 and operated until 1971.  The Pere Marquette operated as such until 1947 when it merged into the C&O Railroad.

Pennsylvania Railroad - PRR

The PRR started it's humble beginings in 1846 and grew via many mergers into the largest railroad by traffic & revenue in the U.S.  It operated limited freight and passenger service in and out of the Detroit area starting in 1920.  The well known "Red Arrow" passenger trains utilized the Fort Street Union Depot in Detroit until 1959.

Wabash Railroad

In 1877 the Toledo, Wabash & Western Railway was reorganized into the Wabash Railway Company, informally named Wabash Railroad.  Through an acquisition of the Eel River Railroad and the addition of new trackage the Wabash entered into Detroit in 1881.  It began passenger service at the Fort Street Union Depot upon completion of the structure in 1893 and continued that service until the depot was shut down in 1971.  The famous "Cannonball" trains ran out of Detroit!

Ann Arbor Railroad

The "Toledo, Ann Arbor & Northern Railroad" was incorporated in 1866.  By 1881 the line was completed from Toledo to South Lyon Michigan.  It was renamed to "Toledo, Ann Arbor & North Michigan Railroad" in 1882.  The complete line stretched from Toledo, Ohio to Frankfort, Michigan.  In 1925 the Wabash Railroad assumed control through stock purchases.  The Ann Arbor Railroad changed ownership several times up to its current ownership by the Ann Arbor Acquisition Corporation and it currently has one of the lowest operating ratios in the United States. Ann Arbor Railroad is commonly referred to as the "Crown Jewel" of the Regionals.
